 My poor brother.

My brother is going through such a rough spot in his life. First his fiance, whom he had proposed to and was going to be married to broke up with him, and took their two cats, Ender and bean, with her.

He then went to the shelter and picked out another cat and named him "Halo". He is just the sweetest cat in the world. He LOVES to cuddle, is energetic, and will play all day with you. As soon as they opened the cage at the shelter he jumped into my brothers arms and started purring. I often wanted to take him home with me. Halo has been such a bright spot for my brother during such a rough time and he is the cat that every cat owner wants to have. He has had him for not even 3 months and isn't even a year old.......

.......and on Friday Halo is going to be put down. :'(

In the last month or so he had lost over a pound of weight. A trip to the vet brought the diagnoses to some form of parasite and my brother was given some medicine to give to Halo. Today I find out that Halo's diagnoses has changed. It turns out he has Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), which is incurable and fatal. The photo above was taken on 3/10/12 and Halo was having difficulty with his hind legs, but at the time we thought the medicine would cure that and I was joking, while taking the photo, about how we should dye the white tip of his tail cherry red next Christmas. :(

Given that the transmission of FIP is not exactly known I'm staying away during Halo's last days to protect my own two kitties. My brother and my mom are spending as much time as they can with him. Halo is getting worse very quickly now, he can no longer walk, yet is still trying as hard as he can to keep himself well groomed and clean. Trying to go on as if nothing is wrong.

I just need to vent a little. :'( It's hard to see someone you care about get knocked down repeatedly in such a short period of time through no fault of his own and hard for such a sweet animal to have to die at such a young age through no fault of their own.

Give all your pets an extra hug and be happy for all the time you have with them. :-*

What a beautiful, handsome, and PRECIOUS baby!!!!! Gosh, how awful for your family and your brother to go through such shit and heartbreak..... But I'm proud that at the VERY least, your brother gave Halo a good home to spend the last days of his life. But gosh DAMMIT. it's still TOO much of a pity that things have to end the way they do. :'( I'll thinking a lot now about you guys and this little kitty, my sympathies go out to you.

Well, I'm told that Halo was loving absolutely everyone today at the Vet's office. He wasn't scared at all. My brother was with him to the end. Thanks for your thoughts. You just don't think about how important they are to you until they're gone.

Anyway, tonight I gave my cuties some Tuna and hugged them both. Lin started sleeping on top of me at night, it is so adorable. Ruger still likes to snuggle next to my legs.

With the deed now done, at least you can be assured that Halo is in a better place now, he could probably be playing with two cats that I used to know. =)

And holy SNAP!!! have your two "kids" gotten big! :o They look lovely!!! ;D

Lin was already full grown, she's my little ally cat. ;D Ruger has indeed gotten big. He is still smaller than Lin and likes to wrestle with Lin. Lin does not like to wrestle and lots of hissing ensues. 10 minutes later they are both sitting on the windowsill as if nothing happened.

The combination of the bi-monthly can of tuna and the high quality kitty food is having a wonderful effect on their coats. Ruger's shedding is now less than Lin's and both their coats are smooth and shiny, though you notice it on Ruger more.
